29 - 30 May 2021 Albany Entertainment Centre, Kalyenup Studio

The 2021 Great Southern Chamber Music Festival has a goal to inspire, excite and engage audience members with an outstanding selection of music which traverses the globe, whilst championing some of Australia’s best soloists.

Curated by Irina Vasilieva and Rob Cowell, the Festival is a key component for Western Australia’s favourite Chamber Music organisation Cappuccino Concerts, which was established just over ten years ago.

This year’s Festival will feature an exciting range of repertoire, and presents a rare opportunity to be up close to some of the country’s finest artists.

Concert cellist Michael Goldschlager career included appearances with the finest musical organisations around the world. Irina Vasiieva is well known as the Russian Concert Pianist who is recreating the tradition of chamber music in Perth. Together they make a perfect match for this concert of passion and poetry, intimacy and immediacy. Hear the most exquisite masterpieces in this cello and piano recital of Sonatas by Vivaldi and Rachmaninoff.

CONCERT 2: SATURDAY 29 MAY @5pm

"Wayfaring Stranger" - David Wickham (Piano) and Helen Brown (Soprano)

David Wickham is one of Australia’s pre-eminent pianists and Helen Brown is renowned for her interpretations on the great recital, concert and opera stages of the world. The duo will perform music by Vaughan Williams, Antonin Dvorak, Joseph Canteloube, Manuel de Falla and newly-discovered songs by Australian Frederick Septimus Kelly. Kelly was an extraordinary composer, virtuoso pianist, Olympic gold medallist rower and decorated soldier, killed in 1916 on the Somme after surviving Gallipoli.

CONCERT 3: SUNDAY 30 MAY @1pm

"The Cello Show" - Michael Goldschlager

Internationally-renowned cello soloist Michael Goldschlager explores the gems of the solo cello repertoire, including works by JS Bach and others, in an audience-friendly presentation of masterworks. Goldschlager infuses the evening with stories, anecdotes and fascinating little-known information about the cello, and performs on his own magnificent instrument – made in France in 1780 for the court of Louis XVI.

CONCERT 4: SUNDAY 30 MAY @5pm

"Between Two Worlds" - David Wickham (piano) and Irina Vasilieva (piano)
