Michael Goldschlager "THE CELLO SHOW"

Internationally-renowned cello soloist Michael Goldschlager explores the gems of the solo cello repertoire, including works by JS Bach and others, in an audience-friendly presentation of masterworks. Goldschlager infuses the evening with stories, anecdotes and fascinating little-known information about the cello, and performs on his own magnificent instrument – made in France in 1780 for the court of Louis XVI.

Michael Goldschlager studied in New York with Bernard Greenhouse, David Soyer and at London’s Royal Academy of Music. In N.Y., he performed with some of the great ensembles, including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, N.Y. City Opera, N. Y. City Ballet, and the Orchestra of St Luke's, of which he was a principal cellist. He was the principal cellist of the WASO for 6 years and has been for many years a regular guest-principal with the Tasmanian and Sydney Symphony Orchestras. He has also been a principal cellist of the ACO, the Auckland Philharmonic and of The Australian World Orchestra under Zubin Mehta on international tours, having recorded with all of these ensembles and has performed at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music on six occasions as well as at the MOFO Festivals in Hobart Tasmania at MONA on several occasions. As the cellist of the Macquarie Trio, Michael has an extensive discography, and has recorded the complete Unaccompanied Suites for cello by J.S. Bach for ABC Classics/Universal to great critical acclaim. He has presented a TED talk, was Margaret Throsby’s radio program guest on two occasions and was the subject of a feature article in Vogue Magazine. He has been a coordinator of strings at the Australian National Academy of Music and has held positions at several other tertiary institutions in Australia and in New York. He currently is teaching peripatetically at WAAPA and will perform a solo recital there in August. He now lives in Albany, Western Australia.
